I experience a period of frightening clarity in those moments when nature is so beautiful.  I am no longer sure of myself, and the paintings appear as in a dream.
Vincent Van Gogh

There are times when I am inspired by someone or something and it these inspirations that lead to my paintings.  I feel very fortunate to be able to express myself through  drawing and painting.  One of my main sources of inspiration is women.  When I see certain women I see Power, Beauty and Grace.  The Power I see in a woman is her intelligence and strength of will and character.  Beauty, of course, may seem obvious, but it something much more than a mere physical exterior.  Beauty is something that emanates from the heart and soul.  And lastly is Grace, this quality is one of the most difficult to define but is evident in the subject that possesses it.  One masterpiece that comes to mind is the Virgin Mary of Michelangelo’s Pieta.  She possesses an eternal Beauty in her face but she also possesses Power and Grace in her expression and posturing.

This may be the reason I paint the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene so often.  For me, these women personify these qualities.
